Ridgetop Refuge, Jackson, Wyoming Vacation Rental

Ridgetop Refuge is an amazing luxury modern Chalet rental in Jackson Hole Wyoming. A blend of masterfully modernized woods and metals change the from ordinary to extraordinary, if you’ve ever dreamed of living in a house from the pages of Architectural Digest Ridgetop Refuge is your chance. The 7,263-square-foot home with 360-degree views of Jackson Hole was featured by the magazine in 2006, shortly after it was built. Conceived by Jackson Hole-based architect Tom Ward, the 5-bedroom home blends into its butte-top site thanks to thoughtful siting and terraced, rectilinear design and a materials palette that includes wildflower/sod-covered roofs, cedar, glass, concrete, and a seasonal water feature surrounding the home. At the top of East Gros Ventre Butte and more than 1,000 feet above the Town of Jackson, this home is contemporary, but also cozy (and not just because of the dry sauna in the basement).

Each of the five bedroom suites has views that stretch the entirety of the Teton Range, and extend south to the Snake River Range. These views can be enjoyed both from inside each suite, and also from each suite’s patio. The master suite, which is in the home’s northern wing, has a natural gas fireplace topped with a Northern maple mantle in addition to a private patio. The four guest rooms, in the home’s southern wing, share patios, one of which has an 8-person hot tub.

All of the bedroom suites are on the main level, which also has a powder room and mudroom. Three of the four guest rooms have queen size beds. The fourth has two twin beds. All of these have bathrooms with a single vanity and a combined shower/tub. As stunning as the views from the bedrooms are—even the jetted, deep-soaking bathtub in the master suite has views of the Tetons and, on clear days, into Yellowstone National Park—the views from the upstairs kitchen/dining/living area are even more impressive.

Standing in the professional-grade kitchen (all appliances are Viking), view the Tetons to the north and west; the National Elk Refuge and Sleeping Indian Mountain to the east; Snow King Mountain and the Town of Jackson to the south. Kitchen cabinets were placed below counter level to preserve views. The views from the four seats at the kitchen island and the 8-person dining table are similar. While mountains are in the distance, close views are of wildflowers, which many of the terraced flat roofs have been planted with, and a seasonal water feature that surrounds the house and settles into a reflecting infinity-edge pool at the home’s lowest level.

The home’s interior design was done so it didn’t compete with the views. To achieve this, the New York based designer told AD “we used the windows like wall coverings.” The home also has a nature-inspired color palette: beiges, blues, and rusts. In addition to its truly panoramic views of the valley, this home is unique for its art collection, which includes works by Donna Howell-Sickles and Robert Bateman, both painters who have work in the permanent collection of the nearby National Museum of Wildlife Art.

In addition to a sauna in the basement, there is also an exercise room and a laundry room with a washing machine and two dryers. Moose, elk, and bald eagles are frequent visitors to the five-acre property, which is about a 15-minute drive from downtown Jackson and about 25 minutes from Teton Village and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Restaurants nearby on East Gros Ventre Butte include The Granary, part of Spring Creek Ranch, and the Amangani Grill, at Amangani, which was the first Aman property in North America when it opened in 1998. Both resorts also have spas that are open to the public.
