RVL is a spacious, gorgeous, serene home adjacent to the famed Amangani Resort, perched on the side of East Gros Ventre Butte 650 feet above the valley floor, looking out to Snow King and the Teton Range. The property is a place of astonishing tranquility, and the home is a study in the harmony and simplicity: clean lines, quiet interiors, constructed with natural materials that tether this fabulous vacation rental to its place in the world. Wood, stone and glass echo the endless wilderness, the rocky spires and the vast, changing sky outside the windows.

Ranch View’s front door opens to a high, airy great room with Valhalla-like views: grand, sweeping vistas fill one entire side of the space. In the living area a sectional couch, a pair of deep club chairs, and two ottomans are grouped before a substantial stone fireplace with a gas hearth. A wide flat screen television stands unobtrusively in a corner.

In the kitchen, black stone countertops set off the streamlined, natural wood cabinetry. High-end appliances aim to make meal preparation easy and enjoyable: a Sub-Zero refrigerator, two sinks, a marvelous double range with its own pot-filler, and a wine fridge. A breakfast bar has upholstered stools for three, and a suspended oblong of track lighting casts ample illumination over all.

Steps away, the dining table seats ten. Four clear glass pendant lights hang over the table like stars. French doors open to a broad stone patio hugging the hillside like an eagle’s aerie, with another dining table, a gas grill, abundant seating, and a spacious hot tub with a stone surround.

RVL has five quiet, airy bedrooms, four on the main level. The master is a big, sumptuous room centered on a massive stone hearth, where a television is mounted over the gas fireplace. A cloud-soft, king size bed faces the fire, and a door leads out to the patio and hot tub. A chaise lounge waits under the tall windows.

In the master bath, a dramatic black stone-tiled alcove holds a long soaking tub and a big, separate shower. Nearby, two vanities are topped with the same dark stone. A walk-in closet provides ample space for clothes storage.

A long hallway leads to three guest bedrooms and a stairway to the lower level. The junior master bedroom is at the very end of the hall, a light-filled space with a king size bed, a door to the patio, and a stone fireplace. Vast picture windows frame stunning views to the south and east. As in the master bedroom, a flat-screen television and a day bed offer rest and relaxation. The junior master has its own black stone bathroom as well with a walk-in shower, a separate soaking tub, and tall windows that can be shuttered for privacy.

The second guest bedroom is a corner room with a private bath; tree trunk supports and floor-to-ceiling windows convey the feeling of being ensconced in a lofty tree house, almost floating on air. A clever table at the end of the bed conceals a television that rises at the touch of a button. Soft wool carpeting is warm and noiseless underfoot.

The final guest bedroom on RVL’s main floor is a simple and tidy space, with a full size bed flanked by two bedside tables, a door to the patio, and a roomy closet. A welcoming armchair and reading light beside the window call for a long, quiet read.

The downstairs bunk room is charming, with four stick-built twin beds stacked two-by-two. A door leads to the patio, and a bathroom is shared with the game room.

The staircase at the end of the guest hall leads down to RVL’s fabulous game room. This is where everyone wants to be in the evening; the rich redwood walls and cabinetry create a warm, welcoming, clubby feeling. An octagonal game table and eight woven-leather chairs invite play late into the night. A sectional sofa faces a flat screen television and a foosball table. There is a fully stocked wet bar as well.
